Cueva de las Maravillas & Altos de Chavón Sightseeing Tour

Discover historic cave paintings and ancient archaeological remains with this tour of the Cueva de las Maravillas National Park and explore the scenic village of Altos de Chavón.
After we pick you up from your hotel at the scheduled time, we'll head to the Cueva de las Maravillas National Park.

Upon arrival, we'll visit a museum to see its exhibitions of archaeological artifacts from different periods found inside the cave. Afterwards, we'll enter the Cueva de las Maravillas, or Cave of Wonders, which stretches 800 meters long and 25 meters deep. The caves are home to centipedes, lizards, and up to three types of bats. But, without a doubt, the most striking feature of this place are the Taino paintings, which are around 800 years old!

On the way out of the cave, we'll visit a center dedicated to rhinoceros iguanas, a species in danger of extinction. Did you know that these animals can grow up to almost 2 meters long? Next, we'll test our orienteering skills as we try to find our way out of a maze made of funkiantyn plants.

We'll then we'll head to Altos de Chavón. This is a traditional Mediterranean village built on a hill overlooking the Chavón River. We'll take a stroll through this special place while we get to know its main highlights, including an amphitheater.

Next, we'll stop off at Higüey City to enjoy a delicious lunch.

After eating, we'll take a tour of Higüey, where we'll pass by the Basílica de Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia, the Central Park and the San Dionisio Parish Church. Finally, we'll make our way to a craft shop to taste some coffee and mamajuana. In addition, we'll also check out a cigar exhibition.

From there, we'll make our way to the starting point.
