Beschreibung

Visit Caumont-Centre d'Art, an 18th-century private mansion turned into an art centre and witness the temporary exhibition "Toulouse-Lautrec, créateur d'icônes" dedicated to the Parisian iconic figure
Located in the Mazarin district, just a few steps from the Cours Mirabeau, Caumont-Centre d'Art has a paved Cour d’Honneur and over 1,000 m² of private gardens. The mansion’s rooms, with their refined décor, recreates the atmosphere and aesthetic characteristics of the 18th century.

The visit of the private mansion immerses you in the refined atmosphere of this exceptional venue, from the cour d'honneur to the gardens, passing through the historic rooms. The carefully furnished and decorated rooms reveal daily life at the time of Pauline, marquise de Caumont, one of the most famous owners of the mansion in the 18th century. The private gardens of the mansion, fully refurbished in the spirit of the site, offer over 1000 m² of peaceful space decorated with fountains, flowerbeds bordered by boxwood, and large vases of flowers.

Open to all forms of art, Caumont-Centre d'Art holds major temporary exhibitions dedicated to the great masters of history of art, from ancient times to the present day.

After visiting the mansion, discover the temporary exhibition "Tolouse-Lautrec, créateur d'icônes" which is presenting this iconic figure of the Parisian avant-garde at the end of the 19th century. Bringing together nearly a hundred works, the exhibition seeks to decipher the artist's exceptional ability to create iconic images and to ensure that his models remain firmly embedded in the collective memory.

Through nearly a hundred works, the exhibition at Caumont-Centre d'Art will focus on revealing the means used to explain not only the originality and success of Toulouse-Lautrec's works, but also, and above all, their prodigious longevity.

Drawing on a wealth of previously unseen private collections and major museums such as the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum, the Musée d'Orsay, and the Musée Carnavalet, the exhibition explores both intimate and sensitive outdoor paintings and iconic posters dedicated to the great figures of Belle Époque entertainment, such as La Goulue, Aristide Bruant, and Jane Avril, as well as those created for the press, publishing, and advertising. The exhibition will thus offer an opportunity to discover how Toulouse-Lautrec was able, better than anyone else, to capture the essence of Paris during the Belle Époque and the world of entertainment, and will also address his links with his contemporaries such as Pierre Bonnard, with whom he shared a common interest in Japonism.
