Day 1 – Classic Kazbegi & Caucasus Mountains
Begin with morning pickup in Tbilisi and follow the historic Georgian Military Highway toward the Greater Caucasus. Stop at Zhinvali Reservoir for panoramic views of its turquoise waters and surrounding mountains.
Continue to Ananuri Fortress, a medieval complex overlooking the reservoir. Explore its historic churches, defensive towers, and atmospheric courtyards while learning about the area’s history.
Travel onward to Gudauri and stop at the Russia–Georgia Friendship Monument, dramatically positioned above the Aragvi Valley. Enjoy time for photographs and take in the spectacular mountain scenery.
Continue to Stepantsminda, the gateway to the Kazbegi region. From here, travel to Gergeti Trinity Church, one of Georgia’s most iconic landmarks, located high above the valley beneath the impressive Caucasus peaks. Explore the surroundings, enjoy the panoramic views, and take photographs before beginning the return journey to Tbilisi.
Day 2 – Mtskheta, Gori & Uplistsikhe
Start the second day with pickup in Tbilisi and travel to Mtskheta, one of Georgia’s oldest cities and a former capital. Visit Jvari Monastery, perched above the meeting point of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, and enjoy views over the historic town.
Continue into Mtskheta and visit Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, an important monument of Georgian religious and cultural heritage. Walk through the historic center before continuing toward Gori.
In Gori, explore the city and visit the Stalin Museum, dedicated to the life and historical period of Joseph Stalin. Continue toward the nearby Uplistsikhe Cave Town, an ancient rock-hewn settlement overlooking the Mtkvari River. Walk through its carved chambers, tunnels, halls, and ancient structures while discovering how this unusual settlement developed over the centuries.
After exploring Uplistsikhe, begin the return journey to Tbilisi and enjoy the Georgian countryside along the way.
This 2-day experience combines the dramatic landscapes of Kazbegi with Georgia’s ancient religious heritage and historic sites, offering a varied introduction to the country through Zhinvali, Ananuri, Gudauri, Gergeti, Mtskheta, Gori, and Uplistsikhe—with convenient round-trip travel from Tbilisi on both days.
