Beschreibung
Explore Phnom Penh on a guided tuk-tuk tour. Choose from a city tour, a visit to the S-21 Museum and Killing Fields, or a trip to Silk Island.
**Option 1: Phnom Penh Silk Island by Tuk Tuk**
Meet your driver at your hotel lobby in Phnom Penh, then head out of the city with your local guide. Visit a silk weaving workshop and learn about the history of silk weaving in Cambodia, a tradition passed down through generations from parent to child.
Next, board the ferry to Silk Island. Once you arrive, get ready for an exciting adventure that will take you through the countryside, farming villages, local markets, tofu skin production, and a Buddhist temple on the island. Be prepared to experience and observe the local culture and way of life, as well as enjoy some breathtaking views of the rural landscape.
**Option 2: Phnom Penh City Tour by Tuk Tuk**
Begin with a visit to the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, one of Phnom Penh’s most iconic landmarks. Explore the beautifully decorated palace complex and admire the Silver Pagoda, famous for its floor made of silver tiles and its collection of national treasures.
Next, continue to the National Museum of Cambodia, home to the world’s finest collection of Khmer art and sculpture. Walk through the traditional terracotta building while your guide explains the history of Cambodia from the Angkorian period to modern times.
Afterward, drive past the Independence Monument, a symbolic structure commemorating Cambodia’s independence from French colonial rule. This is a great spot for photos and to learn about Cambodia’s modern history.
The journey then takes a more reflective turn at Central Market (Phsar Thmey), one of Phnom Penh’s most famous landmarks, known for its distinctive Art Deco design built during the French colonial period.
Finally, conclude your tour at Wat Phnom, the hilltop temple that gave Phnom Penh its name. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and learn about the legend of Lady Penh, marking the spiritual and historical heart of the city.
**Option 3: Phnom Penh S-21 Museum & Killing Fields by Tuk Tuk**
After pickup, head to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21). This site holds significant historical importance as it was originally a well-regarded high school that was later transformed into a heavily guarded prison during the time of Pol Pot's regime. Today, it functions as a museum, serving as a poignant reminder of the somber and distressing days of the past.
Then, proceed to the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek Genocide Center. This notorious location has a harrowing past. Once an idyllic orchard and a Chinese cemetery, it was tragically transformed by the Khmer Rouge, led by Pol Pot, into what became infamously known as the killing fields. Here, approximately 20,000 victims were executed, and an astounding 2.5 million individuals were mercilessly massacred and buried over a period of three years. The site stands as a stark testament to the atrocities committed during that dark chapter in history.
