Beschreibung
Embark on a trek to Ghorepani and Poon Hill from Pokhara. Enjoy a scenic jeep ride, hike through rhododendron forests, and witness a breathtaking sunrise over the Himalayas.
Begin your journey with an early morning pickup from Pokhara, followed by a scenic jeep drive through the countryside. Pass through Nayapul and Birethanti, following the Modi Khola River with views of terraced fields, small villages, and green hills.
The road is mostly off-road and bumpy after Birethanti, requiring a 4WD jeep, but the drive itself is adventurous and rewarding. It usually takes about 3 to 4 hours to reach Ulleri, which is situated at an altitude of around 2,050 meters.
Ulleri is a traditional Magar village known for its stone-paved paths and hillside settlement, and it serves as a major starting point for treks towards Ghorepani and Poon Hill. From here, begin your uphill walk through rhododendron forests towards higher elevations.
Ghorepani is a beautiful mountain village situated at an altitude of about 2,860 meters in the Annapurna region of Nepal, surrounded by dense rhododendron forests that bloom with red, pink, and white flowers during spring, creating a vibrant natural landscape. The village is mainly inhabited by Gurung and Magar communities, offering a rich cultural experience through traditional stone houses, local food like dal bhat, and warm hospitality. It serves as an important resting point for trekkers and a gateway to the nearby viewpoint.
Just above Ghorepani lies Poon Hill, at an altitude of about 3,210 meters, which is one of the most famous and easily accessible viewpoints in Nepal. It is especially popular for its breathtaking sunrise views, where the first rays of the sun illuminate the snow-capped peaks of Annapurna I, Dhaulagiri, and Machhapuchhre, creating a stunning golden panorama. The short hike from Ghorepani to Poon Hill, which takes about 45 minutes to an hour, passes through peaceful forest trails and stone steps, making it suitable even for beginners. Together, Ghorepani and Poon Hill offer a perfect combination of natural beauty, cultural richness, and Himalayan scenery within a short trekking duration.
After completing the trek, the return journey begins from Ulleri with a jeep drive back to Pokhara. The drive follows the same scenic route via Tikhedhunga, Birethanti, and Nayapul, passing through terraced farmlands, rivers, and traditional villages. The road is mostly rough and off-road in the beginning, gradually becoming smoother as you approach Pokhara.
