Beschreibung
Discover the secrets of the Sancta Ovetensis with an official tour guide. Explore the majestic basilica, the Gothic cloister, and the relics of the Holy Chamber, a World Heritage Site.
Enter the heart of Asturias and discover the mysteries of Oviedo Cathedral, historically known as the Sancta Ovetensis.
Accompanied by a local guide accredited by the Cathedral Chapter itself, you'll embark on a journey through time to discover why this cathedral has been one of the most important pilgrimage destinations in the world since the time of King Alfonso II the Chaste. As the famous saying about the Camino de Santiago goes: "He who goes to Santiago and not to San Salvador visits the servant and not the Lord."
During this 1-hour guided visit, we'll enter the cathedral complex to uncover stories that go far beyond what the usual information panels tell us:
• The Basilica and its artistic treasures: We'll walk through the naves of the church, admiring its impressive altarpieces, the ambulatory, and the chapels dedicated to great Asturian figures, such as the Santina (Our Lady of Covadonga) and Saint Eulalia.
• The Gothic Cloister: We'll stroll through this haven of peace while discovering the architectural details and legends hidden within its stones.
• The Holy Chamber (UNESCO World Heritage Site): We'll enter the most sacred space in the complex. Here you'll admire the famous Romanesque Apostolate and Asturias' most valuable historical treasures, including the Cross of Victory, the Cross of the Angels, the Box of Agates, and the mysterious Holy Shroud.
We'll wrap up the tour by admiring the grand exterior portico and uncovering the architectural enigmas concealed within its imposing openwork Gothic tower. An intimate, authentic, and essential experience to understand the soul and history of Oviedo.
