The Lemosho Route is widely regarded as one of the most scenic routes on Mount Kilimanjaro, offering panoramic vistas and a rich variety of landscapes.
Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp
Elevation: 2,100 m (6,890 ft) to 2,650 m (8,690 ft)
Distance: 6 km (3.7 miles)
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Rainforest
After registration at Londorossi Gate, you'll be transported to the trailhead. The trek begins through dense rainforest with a chance to see Colobus monkeys and other wildlife.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp
Elevation: 2,650 m (8,690 ft) to 3,610 m (11,910 ft)
Distance: 8 km (5 miles)
Hiking Time: 5-7 hours
Habitat: Moorland
Leaving the rainforest behind, the trail gradually steepens and enters the heath and moorland zone. You'll cross several streams before reaching the Shira Ridge and descending gently to Shira 1 Camp on the Shira Plateau.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
Elevation: 3,610 m (11,910 ft) to 3,850 m (12,630 ft)
Distance: 7 km (4.3 miles)
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Moorland
This is a relatively short day designed to aid acclimatization. You'll traverse the Shira Plateau, with stunning views of the Western Breach and the Kibo Massif, before reaching Shira 2 Camp.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
Elevation: 3,850 m (12,630 ft) to 3,900 m (12,800 ft)
Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles)
Hiking Time: 6-8 hours
Habitat: Semi-desert
Today’s trek includes a significant acclimatization climb. You'll hike to the Lava Tower at 4,600 m (15,190 ft) before descending to Barranco Camp.

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Elevation: 3,900 m (12,800 ft) to 4,035 m (13,230 ft)
Distance: 5 km (3.1 miles)
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
You'll start the day with a climb up the Barranco Wall, a challenging but non-technical scramble. The trail then follows a series of ridges and valleys before reaching Karanga Camp.

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Elevation: 4,035 m (13,230 ft) to 4,640 m (15,220 ft)
Distance: 4 km (2.5 miles)
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
Today is a short but steep climb to Barafu Camp. You'll arrive in the early afternoon to rest and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.

Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak, then descend to Mweka Camp
Elevation: 4,640 m (15,220 ft) to 5,895 m (19,341 ft) and down to 3,080 m (10,105 ft)
Distance: 17 km (10.5 miles)
Hiking Time: 12-15 hours
Habitat: Arctic to Rainforest
Your summit attempt begins around midnight. The ascent to Stella Point on the crater rim is steep and strenuous. From Stella Point, it's a gradual climb to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement, you'll descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp.

Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Elevation: 3,080 m (10,105 ft) to 1,630 m (5,380 ft)
Distance: 10 km (6.2 miles)
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Rainforest
On your final day, you'll descend through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. After signing out at the gate, you'll receive your summit certificates and be transferred back to Moshi.
