In this 3-hour-long guided food tour I take you to the most beautiful historic market hall of Budapest, to a modern market hall and to a histoic café to taste traditional flavours of Hungary in beautiful historic surroundings. During the tour we will taste 5 masterpieces of Hungarian cuisine plus an additional one being surprise!
We start our tour in the closeby proximities of Budapest's prettiest market hall to admire the UNESCO World Heritage Site panorama of the Danube embankments of Budapest. I will tell you the role of the Danube in the trade of Budapest through the centuries in the past, and I will show you a beautiful building which once served as the main custom house of Budapest but today has a completely different but also important function.
First, we will taste some delicious Hungarian scones and some homemade Hungarian salami and sausage products made with ground red pepper.
After that we will travel to another market hall of the city to taste 'lángos' - a traditional deep-fried dough generally topped with cheese and sour cream - and a true Hungarian delicacy fillled with delicious Hungarian fruits.
After that we take our way through Grand Boulevard of Budapest towards a historic café of the city where we taste two products: a sweet bakery product of Hungary filled with poppy seeds and the surprise product. Here we will go back more than 100 years in time: the café has the original interior from the time of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy!
During this tour you will not only get a great culinary experience of the masterpieces of Hungarian gastronomy, but you will admire a great number of amazing monuments like the gorgeous outer structure of the Hungarian State Opera House, a beautiful bridge of Budapest, the splendid classicist style building of Hungary's first museum and the prettiest railway station of Budapest.
We will admire stunning palaces from the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy's era and numerous amazing facades of 19th- and 20th-century-apartments of Budapest, a memorial tree erected for the 'King of the Pop' and two stunning fountains which are the products of the two most famous Hungarian porcelain manufactories.
You will get deep insight into Hungarian gastronomy while learning about the history of Budapest and Hungary, the connection between Hungarian people and their national dishes and the evolvement of Hungarian cuisine through the more than 1000 year-long history of Hungary.
You will not only hear the tricks of preparing the traditional main dishes of Hungary in a perfect way in this food tour, but I will tell you engaging stories related to traditional Hungarian dishes and famous composers who once visited this gorgeous capital. You will even hear local urban myths in connection with these celebrities and their favourite Hungarian meals.
At the end of the tour I sing you the most beautiful Hungarian folk songs and I show you some traditional Hungarian folk dance steps to let you get a 'taste' of Hungarian culture.
