Description

Discover Königs Wusterhausen between the palace, the Notte Canal, and the train station. A journey through time through Prussian history, urban development, and the worlds of life in the Mark.
Just a few kilometers outside the city limits of Berlin lies a town that surprisingly combines Prussian history, Brandenburg idyll, and vibrant urban development: Königs Wusterhausen.

Königs Wusterhausen is much more than the first broadcasting city in Germany. On this walking tour of about one hour, you will discover the eventful history of a city that is closely linked to Prussia, the House of Hohenzollern, and the development of Brandenburg.

Starting from the Königs Wusterhausen train station, we follow the historic Bahnhofstraße towards the old town. You will learn how the former farming town changed with the connection to the railroad in the 19th century and developed into an important regional center.

Along the picturesque Notte Canal, we encounter the history of trade and shipping in Brandenburg. The canal has connected the region with Berlin for centuries and made the transportation of building materials, agricultural products, and other goods possible.

The focus of the guided tour is Königs Wusterhausen Castle, which is closely linked to Friedrich Wilhelm I, the "Soldier King". The Prussian monarch spent numerous stays here and left a lasting mark on the place. You will learn why the palace is considered one of the most important authentic memorial sites to the Soldier King and the significance of Königs Wusterhausen for the development of Prussia.

Passing by historic administrative buildings and the district court, you will learn about the development of the city from a royal estate to a modern district capital. You will encounter stories of rulers, officials, merchants, and ordinary citizens who have shaped the face of Königs Wusterhausen over the centuries.

The tour combines architecture, city history, and Prussian heritage in a varied walking tour for visitors who want to discover Brandenburg away from the well-known metropolises.
