Duration: 06:00 hours

Description

See the ancient sea port of Muziris, magical temples, and the seaport of Cochin. This tour is ideal for cruise liner passengers and provides a convenient way to see the beautiful backwater and surrounding temples and landmarks.
In 1341 AD, nature did one of the things she does best: create and destroy in one fell swoop. The port of Kodungallur, just north of Cochin, was destroyed when the Periyar River flooded, and in its place a new harbor was born.

Today the port of Muziris is a very important natural harbor and one of the finest on India’s west coast. This port has 2,000 year-old links to both Chines and Arab sea traders and is rich in history both culturally and spiritually. The Jewish have been present in Cochin since 388 AD, and the Apostle Thomas brought Christianity to this area in 54 AD.

Especially convenient for those on a cruise tour, this is an opportunity to see Cochin in greater detail as well as take in the natural splendor of Cochin’s backwater. Both the ancient and modern are featured on this tour.
