Description
Brew and taste Indonesia’s finest coffee and chocolate in Yogyakarta. Discover rich flavors, learn traditional brewing, and take home your favorite beans or cocoa as a sweet souvenir.
Discover Indonesia’s rich legacy of coffee and chocolate in this immersive hands-on workshop at Local Coffee Shop, located in the heart of Yogyakarta. Guided by a friendly local barista and interpreter, this experience takes you on a flavorful journey through the archipelago — from the highlands of Aceh Gayo to the plantations of Java, Toraja, Bali, Lampung, and beyond.
Begin your journey with a warm welcome and a short introduction to Indonesia’s deep-rooted coffee and cocoa heritage. Learn how coffee from Java once shaped global taste during the Dutch East Indies era, when “Java Coffee” became world-famous. At the same time, discover how cocoa spread across the archipelago and became an integral part of local culture and modern craft chocolate production.
Your experience starts with a guided tasting session. You’ll explore the aromas and flavor profiles of several regional varieties — earthy and full-bodied Gayo beans, nutty Java coffee, floral Toraja, fruity Ijen, and rich Temanggung roasts. Alongside, sample premium Indonesian chocolates sourced from small producers in Bali, Lampung, West Java, and Aceh, each offering its own aroma and texture.
After the tasting, it’s your turn to create. Choose whether you’d like to brew coffee manually using pour-over or immersion methods, or to prepare a traditional-style hot chocolate using authentic Indonesian cocoa. Your barista will guide you step by step — from grind size and water temperature to pouring technique — so you can perfect your own cup.
Throughout the workshop, feel free to chat, take photos, and exchange thoughts about coffee culture in Indonesia — from late-night “ngopi” traditions to the modern café scene. This is more than a class; it’s a relaxed, sensory experience that connects flavor, culture, and history.
The session concludes with a photo moment and a thoughtful gift: two 50-gram packs of your favorite selections, coffee or chocolate, to bring home. It’s the perfect way to remember the taste of Indonesia long after your trip ends.
With hotel pickup and drop-off included, you can simply relax and enjoy the flavors of Yogyakarta’s coffee and chocolate heritage. Whether you’re a caffeine lover, a chocolate enthusiast, or simply curious about Indonesia’s culture, this experience offers a perfect blend of learning, tasting, and storytelling — a journey from bean to cup that awakens all your senses
Discover how each island’s soil and climate create unique flavors and aromas. The experience concludes with a relaxed photo session and a gift of two 50g bags of your favorite beans to take home.
