Description

Enjoy yourself in a traditional tea room in Tondaya. Enjoy a peaceful moment, and watch the performance of the tea ceremony.
The tea ceremony takes place in Tondaya's traditional tea room.
Tondaya is a National Cultural Asset in Kyoto, with a history of 140 years.
Inside this historic house is a small, traditional tea room called Rakuju, supervised by the 12th-generation tea master of the Mushakouji Kankyuan school.

In the past, according to the code of Bushido, those entering the tea room had to discard their swords and armor at the entrance. Even high-ranking individuals had to bow their heads to pass through the low doorway. This practice reflects the tea ceremony’s philosophy as a space of peace and equality.

Enjoy a peaceful moment, and watch the performance of the tea ceremony.
