Descripción

Guangzhou local & philosophy scholar hosts a home dinner: traditional Gongfu tea (plus tea cocktails!) and a Cantonese feast, paired with real conversation on Chinese culture & philosophy.
Some of the best conversations happen over a slow pot of tea and a home-cooked meal — that's the idea behind this evening. No performance, no rigid itinerary. Just you, me, a proper Cantonese spread, and as much philosophy talk as you want. You are more than welcomed to contact me at Whatsapp(+44 7769737465) and Getyourguide before booking and I can tailor the experience as per your request.
1. Why I Do This
I grew up in Guangzhou, in a Cantonese household where tea was never just a drink and dinner was never rushed. I'm now finishing a philosophy degree in the UK, which mostly means I've gotten very good at asking "why" — why tea is poured the way it is, why certain dishes only appear in certain seasons, why hospitality in China works the way it does. I wanted a way to actually sit with visitors and talk through those questions properly, instead of rattling off facts on a group tour. This evening is that.
2. How the Evening Unfolds
We'll open with tea — brewed the traditional gongfu way, slow and deliberate. I'll walk you through a few different styles (green, oolong, aged pu-erh) and explain what actually separates one from another, along with the etiquette and thinking behind Chinese tea culture more broadly. If you'd rather something a little more playful, I also make tea-based cocktails — a modern twist on tradition.
3. From tea, we move to dinner: a proper Cantonese home-style meal, cooked the way it's cooked in Guangzhou households, not adapted for a restaurant menu. Expect a mix of meat, vegetables, soup, and rice, served family-style. Tell me your dietary needs ahead of time and I'll build the meal around them.
4. The through-line for the evening is conversation. I like comparing Chinese philosophical traditions — Confucian, Daoist, Buddhist — against whatever cultural background you're bringing to the table. You ask questions, I ask questions back. It's less a tour and more a long dinner with someone who happens to know the history.
5.On the Table Tonight (seasonal — adjusts with the market and your dietary needs)
Mains:
Steamed Sea Bass, Ginger & Scallion
Honey Char Siu
Garlic Stir-Fried Prawns
Boiled Beef in Spicy Broth (水煮牛肉) — Sichuan-style
Chicken Wings with Wampee & Fermented Red Beancurd (黄皮南乳鸡翅)
Braised Beef Brisket with Daikon Radish (萝卜牛腩)
Steamed Pork Ribs (蒸排骨)

Vegetables & Sides:
Garlic Choy Sum
Silken Tofu with Century Egg
Winter Melon & Pork Rib Soup

Tea:
Tie Guan Yin (Oolong)
Aged Pu-erh
Jasmine Green Tea
Tea-based cocktails, on request

6. Who This Is For
Travelers who want more than a meal — people curious about Chinese philosophy and culture, who enjoy real conversation and comparing ideas across traditions, and who'd rather spend an evening at someone's table than in a crowded restaurant.

Real connection, real tea, real food — come sit at the table. And meet my dog!
