I. Product Overview
The Grand Canal Hangzhou Scenic Area is located in Gongshu District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. It is an open linear scenic area spanning from Wulinmen Wharf in the south to Shixiang Road in the north, approximately 7.3 kilometers long and 500 to 1,000 meters wide, covering a total area of 4.1 square kilometers. It was officially approved as a National AAAA Tourist Attraction on October 3, 2012, and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014 as part of the Grand Canal.

The scenic area is centered around three historical and cultural districts — Qiaoxi, Xiaohe, and Dadou Road — along with cultural heritage sites such as Fuyi Granary. It features a “Three Streets, Four Parks” framework, encompassing cultural heritage nodes including Gongchen Bridge, the Living Handicraft Museum, and Xiangji Temple, as well as a cluster of museums. As the southernmost point of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, it blends the products, cuisine, customs, and folk traditions of both northern and southern China, forming the canal cultural landscape represented by the “Ten Views of the Canal”.

II. Core Experiences
1. Water Bus Tour
Depart from Wulinmen Wharf and take Water Bus Line 1 north along the canal, passing Xinyifang and other stops before arriving at Gongchen Bridge, with a journey time of approximately 30-40 minutes. As a daily public transport vessel, the water bus offers a cost-effective way to experience canal scenery, with views of riverside residences, ancient bridges, and the city skyline.

2. Canal Night Cruise
Hangzhou Canal Night Cruise is a nighttime sightseeing project centered on the Hangzhou section of the Grand Canal. It operates from Wulinmen Wharf to Gongchen Bridge, open year-round from 18:00 to 20:30.

The route passes West Lake Cultural Square, Zhaohui Bridge, Chaowang Bridge, One-way sailing time is approximately 50 minutes. Along the way, visitors can enjoy night scenery themes such as “New Wulin” and “Gongchen Nostalgia,” which integrate modern lighting technology with historical relics. The lighting system uses intelligent control technology, and holographic projection equipment is installed at the bottom of bridge arches to dynamically display canal cultural heritage.

3. AR Water Tour Immersive Experience
In 2025, Hangzhou launched China‘s first Grand Canal “AR Water Tour” immersive experience project. The route is a loop from Wulinmen Wharf to Gongchen Bridge and back, lasting about 1 hour. After boarding and putting on AR glasses, the prosperity of Qiantang described by poet Liu Yong unfolds before passengers’ eyes.

Passengers are invited to become “Time-Space Restorers” of the Grand Canal and unlock missions together. When the boat passes Chaowang Bridge, the four Chaowang stone statues on the bridge piers enter a demon-fighting mode with passengers.
