Descripción
See Perth through the eyes of a structural engineer. Uncover hidden design details, construction stories, and architectural surprises in the city's most iconic and overlooked buildings.
Most city tours tell you when a building was built and who commissioned it. This one tells you why it stands, how it nearly fell, and what the architects hid in plain sight. Led by a working structural engineer with over fifteen years of experience in Perth's construction industry, this small-group walking tour decodes the city's built environment in a way no history guide can replicate.
You will move through the CBD and Northbridge, stopping at a carefully chosen sequence of buildings that span Perth's architectural eras. At the old courthouse precinct, you will learn how colonial builders improvised with local limestone under extreme heat. At a mid-century commercial block, you will see how post-war engineers solved the problem of expanding steel in a sun-exposed facade. At one of the city's newer towers, your guide will explain the wind-load engineering that gives the structure its distinctive silhouette. These are not textbook observations. Your guide worked on several of the sites you will visit.
The tour is designed for curious adults who want substance over sightseeing. Group size is capped at eight people to allow genuine conversation and questions at each stop. No prior knowledge of architecture or engineering is required. If you have ever looked at a building and wondered how it stays up, or why it looks the way it does, this tour was made for you.
