Your guide will pick you up from your Zhangjiajie hotel for a two-hour drive to Shiyanping Ancient Village. Along the way, enjoy the picturesque countryside views of rice fields and rolling hills, while your guide shares stories about the Tujia people, their history, and cultural traditions.

Shiyanping Ancient Village: a hidden gem surrounded by dense forests and mountain scenery. Dating back over a thousand years, the village preserves more than 180 traditional stilted houses built by the Tujia ethnic group during the Qing dynasty. As you wander along the cobblestone paths, you’ll encounter well-preserved wooden architecture and learn how this village became one of the first 50 traditional villages officially protected by the Chinese government.

A Tujia-style lunch will be served in the village, giving you the chance to taste authentic local flavors while soaking up the tranquil atmosphere.

Sandstone Art Gallery: In the afternoon, return to Zhangjiajie city and visit the Sandstone Art Gallery, the only cultural park in the world dedicated to this unique art form. Founded in 1986, the gallery uses natural sands, stones, and minerals from the UNESCO-listed Wuling Mountains to create eco-friendly landscape artworks. Explore a collection of award-winning pieces that have been displayed at international exhibitions, including the World Expo in Milan and the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Sandstone Art Workshop: After exploring the gallery, join a hands-on workshop led by professional instructors. Choose your theme - such as Zhangjiajie’s quartzite peaks, auspicious Chinese characters, or even a personal design - and learn how to layer natural sands into a striking 3D image. No prior experience is needed, and your finished artwork will be yours to take home as a one-of-a-kind souvenir.
