Shanghai has two sides that most visitors never get to experience from the inside. This experience covers both.

You’ll begin with a guided tasting of China’s 6 classic tea categories: green, white, yellow, oolong, black, and pu’er. An English-speaking guide will walk you through each cup — the terroir behind a Longjing green tea, the aged earthiness of a pu’er, the delicate complexity of a white — helping you develop a real vocabulary for Chinese tea that goes far beyond “hot or iced.” The setting is a traditional Shikumen lanehouse, one of Shanghai’s most iconic and disappearing architectural styles.

Then it’s time for mahjong. You’ll walk with your host to a neighborhood parlor — not a hotel activity room, but the kind of place where locals gather to play, laugh, and spend an afternoon together. Mahjong in China isn’t just a game — it’s one of the main ways people connect, catch up, and enjoy each other’s company. Your host will teach you the tiles, the rules, and the strategy, so you can sit down at a real table and play genuine rounds alongside local players.

By the end of the afternoon, you’ll have a real feel for how Shanghai locals actually enjoy their free time — and a game you can bring home with you.
