Begin your day with a convenient pickup from your hotel in Sofia and travel by car or bus to Plovdiv, Bulgaria’s second-largest city. Upon arrival, embark on a walking tour through its historic heart. Learn about Plovdiv’s long past, from its Thracian origins around 1200 BC to its later role as Philippopolis under Philip of Macedon. As you explore, see how Roman heritage, Ottoman-era architecture, Orthodox churches, galleries, shops, cafes, and modern city life come together in one place.

Pause for lunch in Plovdiv or the surrounding area, either at a restaurant known for refined dishes or at a cozy wine bar run by a local family winery. Depending on the day and venue, the meal may be paired with the wines served there.

In the afternoon, head to a winery at the edge of the Rhodope Mountains. Walk around the winery complex and, in favorable weather, through the vineyards with views toward the mountains.
