One of the most exciting walks! Experience the Titan RT suspension bridge and visit the Solitair observation tower right by the Rappbode Valley Dam.
In the heart of the Rappbode Valley, the “Titan RT” spans the Bode Reservoir with an impressive total length of 458.5 meters (1,504 feet). The delicate cable structure is anchored into the slate rock on both sides of the valley, with an enormous tensile force of 947 tons. Four main suspension cables, each with a diameter of 65 mm (2.5 inches), form the backbone of this 120-ton (265,000-pound) structure. In addition, the bridge is held in shape—and, at higher wind speeds, in position—by two stabilizing cables. The 120-cm-wide walkway (grating) is flanked along its entire length by a 130-cm-high railing and is enclosed at the sides by stainless-steel mesh. Opened in 2022, the Harzdrenalin “Solitair” observation tower offers premium views over the Eastern Harz and the Harz foothills. Even as you climb the 160 steps around the tower, the partial textile cladding provides a continuous view of the surroundings and the tower's interior. Once at the top, the wraparound platform, featuring two installed glass balconies, offers an unobstructed sense of vastness. A panoramic elevator provides wheelchair-accessible access to the top. From both structures, visitors can enjoy an exceptional view of the tallest dam in Germany, the Rappbode Valley Dam.
