Erfurt has a green heart, as around 100,000 trees grow here. They are true heroes who deserve our attention. Come and get to know Erfurt from a green perspective.
We'll start behind the cathedral on Theaterplatz. Here, I will show you the first magnificent and unusual trees on this tour. They have fascinating stories to tell: where exotic species originated and what ancient bonds exist between trees and people.

The route continues along Domstraße. Here, you will learn, in a vivid way, about the challenges that trees in the city have to overcome compared to those in the forest, and about the roles that urban trees actually play. You will see that their role is not limited to providing clean air; they serve a wide variety of purposes.

At Hermannsplatz, we will focus on new, climate-adapted tree species, such as the honey locust that grows here. At this beautiful stop, with its historic fountain, you will learn about what to consider when planting and caring for trees and what a tree register is.

Next, we continue through the Brühler Garten, a tranquil park with a large population of maple and linden trees. Learn new things about these well-known species and how individual tree species are distributed throughout the city area.

The route ends at Theater Square. There, we encounter a living fossil, the ginkgo, which also inspired Goethe. If you like, you can wrap things up with a bit of mythology, gaining insights into the Celtic tree circle, which can be described as an earthly horoscope.
