A 2-day cultural experience with indigenous hosts in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta: a guided hike, local cuisine, traditional knowledge, and cultural dialogue in a unique natural environment.
This activity was developed together with the community and is geared towards learning, cultural exchange, and respect for local traditions.

Day 1.
The experience kicks off at 8:00 a.m. at the Nuevo Calabazo store, where you'll start a guided hike of approximately 4.5 km along Sierra Nevada trails. Upon arrival in the area, you'll participate in a cultural welcome activity, where an indigenous host will explain the meaning of traditional harmonization practices and their importance within the local worldview, with an informative and educational approach.

During the tour, your local guide will share information about the natural environment, the traditional use of the territory, and the community's historical relationship with the mountain. You'll also visit ancestral terraces while learning about their historical, cultural, and environmental uses. You'll also learn about medicinal plants, traditional agriculture, and local crafts, such as the use of maguey or fique, the extraction of cane juice (when there's a harvest), and tasting other fruits according to their harvest.

Around 12:40 pm, you'll enjoy a lunch prepared with local ingredients and traditional recipes with the Campesina community. Later, there will be a guided session to collect natural materials for later use or transformation as raw material in the design of everyday garments or accessories.

You'll sleep in hammocks with mosquito nets. The space has bathrooms and showers, ensuring a comfortable stay that respects the community spaces. In the evening, we'll have dinner between 7:00 pm and 7:30 pm, then we'll have a cultural dialogue around the fire, where a member of the community will share stories, knowledge, and aspects of their worldview, customs, and traditions. This moment is geared towards knowledge exchange and cultural understanding from the hosts' perspective. The break will be between 9:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

Day 2.
At dawn on the second day, you'll share a typical breakfast and continue exploring the surroundings with a local guide. The plant fibers from the previous day will have a natural dye, and you'll have the chance to extract and apply the colors, as well as learn about the process of making and using mother-of-pearl, always from an explanatory and respectful perspective. After lunch, around 2:00 p.m., you'll start the descent back to the initial meeting point, where the experience will end.

This activity offers an opportunity to understand the indigenous cultural richness of the Sierra Nevada through a model of responsible, low-impact cultural tourism developed in direct collaboration with the host community.
