One of the largest castle complexes in Germany stretches over nine hectares and its impressive ruins still bear witness to its eventful history and once great importance.
The complex was once the residence of the Swabian dukes, served as a simple knight's castle, became the Württemberg state fortress and even served as a state prison. Today, the historic walls offer visitors exciting insights into centuries of history. Particularly impressive are the entrenchments and bastions from the 18th century, which have left their mark in many places on the grounds. Immerse yourself in the past with the well-known castle researcher Rudolf Martin and be enchanted by the impressive atmosphere of this unique fortress ruin.
The tour starts at the information center on Hohentwiel and ends in the fortress ruins. Good shoes and sure-footedness are required! The ascent to the fortress ruins is not barrier-free.
