Day by Day itinerary
Day 1: Arrival – Gaysay Campsite
Arrive in Bale and meet your professional guide and driver. Transfer to Gaysay Campsite and enjoy tea or coffee before your first wildlife and birdwatching walk through the scenic alpine and moorland zone. After lunch at camp, head out again in the late afternoon for another guided birding and wildlife hike.
Overnight: Gaysay Campsite
Day 2: Gaysay – Sodota / Web Valley
Drive and hike to Sodota, part of the famous Web Valley, one of the best places to spot the Ethiopian wolf. This area is also excellent for raptors and alpine bird species, including Golden Eagle, Steppe Eagle, Augur Buzzard, African Harrier-Hawk, and Abyssinian Owl. Continue birding and wildlife exploration in the afternoon.
Overnight: Sodota Campsite
Day 3: Sodota – Garba Guracha
Trek through the breathtaking Afro-alpine landscape toward Garba Guracha, one of the most scenic trekking sections in the Bale Mountains. Enjoy panoramic views, moorland habitats, and excellent opportunities for birdwatching, wildlife viewing, and photography along the trail.
Overnight: Garba Guracha Campsite
Day 4: Garba Guracha – Tullu Dimtu – Harenna Forest
Trek to Tullu Dimtu (4,300 m), one of Ethiopia’s highest peaks, and enjoy incredible views across the Sanetti Plateau. After the hike, drive down into the lush Harenna Forest, a beautiful contrast to the alpine landscapes and an excellent area for forest birdwatching and nature exploration.
Overnight: Harenna Forest Campsite
Day 5: Harenna Forest – Bale Robe
Enjoy a relaxed morning in the forest with optional birdwatching or nature walk before driving to Bale Robe Airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa.
