Photography layover sightseeing starts/ends at Bole Airport and Meskel Square, 4Killo Square area with the National Museum & Holy Trinity, Tomoka Coffee and stop at Merkato, transfer to the Airport.
Meet your guide/driver just outside arrivals/meeting point. Get a quick briefing, confirm passport/camera gear, and reconfirm return time to meet your flight check‑in requirement. Depart immediately for central Addis.
Transfer to Meskel Square. Enjoy a photo opportunity from the car and a short walk if permitted. Shoot cityscape, traffic life, and the Meskel Flower monument (especially good for wide-angle street scenes).
Drive to the 4 Killo/Arat Killo area for exterior photos of civic architecture and daily street life. Continue to the National Museum (short visit) — focus on the museum’s exterior, gardens, and a quick interior visit to see highlights (e.g., Lucy replica) if time permits.
Next, take a short drive to the Holy Trinity (Selassie) Cathedral. Take exterior and interior photographs (respectful dress/code required). Walk the grounds, capture architectural details, stained glass, and views over the city.
Drive to the Piassa area (historic downtown). Head to Tomoca Coffee for a quick coffee break. Enjoy a coffee and take a few environmental shots of the traditional coffee service and the cafe interior — great for candid street and portrait photography.
Walk around Piassa for street scenes: colonial-era buildings, street vendors, and local life. Capture the character of old Addis. Keep this walk short and near the car to stay on schedule.
Drive to Merkato (one of Africa’s largest open markets). Do a quick guided walk at the entrance/main aisles for vibrant market photography — spices, textiles, crafts. Be mindful: Merkato is busy; keep valuables secure and follow your guide. Ask vendors before close-up portraits.
Finally, drive back to Bole Airport allowing for traffic. If your flight requires earlier arrival, adjust departure from Merkato earlier.
