Day 1: Addis Ababa → Bahir Dar | Lake Tana Islands & Blue Nile Falls

Start with an early departure from Addis Ababa for Bahir Dar (about 1 hour by flight). After arrival and check-in, ease into the journey with a scenic introduction to Lake Tana, Ethiopia’s largest lake and the starting point of the Blue Nile.

In the afternoon, board a boat to explore island monasteries on Lake Tana. Focus on heritage-rich sites such as Ura Kidane Mihret, known for its distinctive religious paintings and long-standing cultural significance. The island setting offers a peaceful contrast to the livelier shore areas.

Next, head to the Blue Nile Falls (Tis Issat – “Water that Smokes”) for a viewing experience of the falls at their most dramatic—wide, powerful, and surrounded by lush greenery.

Day 2: Bahir Dar | Lakeside Views, Culture Stops & Return to Addis Ababa

After breakfast, spend the morning discovering Bahir Dar in a more relaxed, local style. Begin with a market visit to experience everyday life and local produce, then continue with short scenic stops that offer panoramic perspectives over Lake Tana and the surrounding hills.

If the weather is clear, take time along the lakeshore for photos, coffee, and a slow walk through palm-lined areas and viewpoints. This is a good time to enjoy the atmosphere and recharge before travel.

In the afternoon, transfer to the airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa, concluding the trip.
