Follow the trail, which is generally beginner-friendly, featuring gentle ascents, picturesque landscapes, and historical landmarks. Learn about the mountain's history as the site of a tragic aviation accident that occurred on March 17, 1957, when a Douglas C-47 Skytrain crashed on its slopes. The accident claimed the lives of 25 of the 26 people on board, including the then-President of the Philippines, Ramon Magsaysay, along with several government officials, military personnel, and journalists. The sole survivor was journalist Nestor Mata.
At the time of his death, President Magsaysay was one of the country's most popular leaders and was widely expected to secure re-election in the presidential election later that year.
