Deep in the forests of Vikaköngäs, the Forest Elf has hidden small treasures for families brave enough to search for them.
Nobody knows exactly where the Forest Elf lives. Some say he watches over the forests, rivers and wildlife of Lapland. Others believe he only leaves behind clues, treasures and signs of his presence for those willing to explore the Arctic wilderness.
On this magical family-friendly evening adventure, children and parents follow a lantern-lit trail through the beautiful riverside forests of Vikaköngäs in search of the Forest Elf's hidden treasures.
The experience begins with a short drive from Rovaniemi to one of the region's most beautiful nature areas. Upon arrival, children receive their own lantern and hear the story of the mysterious Forest Elf before setting off into the snowy forest.
One of the highlights of the evening is a lantern walk across the famous Bridge of Friendship. Carrying lanterns through the Arctic twilight, families cross the suspension bridge together before continuing deeper into the peaceful forest trails beyond.
This is where the treasure hunt begins.
Hidden along the route are small treasure pouches left behind by the Forest Elf. Some contain Finnish treats, while others hold small surprises inspired by Lapland. Every discovery brings new excitement as children and adults explore the forest together.
The trail eventually leads to a traditional Finnish wilderness shelter where a warm campfire awaits.
Gathered around the fire, families can relax, grill sausages, roast marshmallows and enjoy hot drinks while sharing stories about the treasures they discovered along the way. Surrounded by the peaceful sounds of the Arctic forest, this is a wonderful opportunity to experience Lapland in the same simple and authentic way many locals remember from their own childhood adventures.
As darkness settles over the forest, lanterns glow among the trees and the stars begin to appear overhead. If weather and sky conditions are favourable, you may even witness the Northern Lights dancing above the treetops.
However, this is not a Northern Lights hunting tour. The Aurora is a wonderful bonus whenever it appears, but the true heart of the experience is the treasure hunt itself — the lanterns, the forest, the campfire and the joy of discovering hidden surprises together as a family.
Designed especially for families with children, the experience is limited to a maximum of 16 guests, creating a friendly and interactive atmosphere where everyone can take part in the adventure. Couples, solo travellers and adventurous adults are also welcome.

This experience takes place outdoors in Arctic winter conditions. Please dress warmly with suitable winter clothing, including insulated footwear, gloves and a hat.
The walking distance is approximately 1 kilometre on maintained forest trails. The pace is relaxed and suitable for families.
Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult throughout the experience.
The treasure hunt is designed for families and curious adventurers of all ages. No special skills or previous experience are required.
The experience operates in most weather conditions unless severe weather makes it unsafe to proceed.
Northern Lights may occasionally be visible during the experience, but they are not guaranteed and are not the main focus of the adventure.
Some sections of the route include uneven natural terrain, snow-covered paths and a suspension bridge.
