We have designed a 4-hour walking tour bursting with aromas, colors, and authentic flavors, centered around the finest treasures of our land making Kalamata one of your all-time favorite vegetarian destinations.
PART 1: Meeting point
Maria, our passionate food lover and local host, will be waiting for you at the beautiful Central Square of Kalamata, Vasileos Georgiou Square, in front of the Hondos Center store. The 3 wonderful Statues of the Messinian War Heroes of 1821 are just in front of you.
PART 2: A Local Plant-Based paradise
We’ll head straight to the heart of the city and visit a wonderful family-run shop, a local legend here in Kalamata. The perfect place to treat yourselves to the very best of our local plant-based treasures!
Part 3: Traditional Sips
Right next door, we’ll make a stop at a cozy, family-owned Micro Roastery where we will enjoy a traditional, slowly brewed Greek coffee or any other drink you like, prepared with local care!
PART 4: A taste of Homemade treats
Meet the most vibrant and cheerful Mum in Kalamata! In her shop, you’ll discover everything from homemade sweets and traditional cookies to delicious apple pies and treats for our vegan friends!
Part 5: A 100 year old Morning Secret
Get ready to discover one of the very few traditional bakeries that still uses authentic wood-fired ovens to bake their bread and all their pastries! Taste the Lalagopsomo, a unique fried dough delicacy, nibble on traditional Koulourakia, fragrant cookies or aromatic Paximadia!
Part 6: Liquid Gold or Golden Nectar?
You can choose between 2 of Greece’s most emblematic treasures:
Option A: Liquid Gold & The Queen of Olives!
We’ll visit a premier olive oil boutique for a certified tasting of Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Professional tasters will reveal the secrets of this 'liquid gold' and savor the world-renowned Kalamata Table Olives!
Option B: The Nectar of the Gods – A Honey Adventure!
In this golden experience, we’ll dive into a sensory Honey Tasting featuring four distinct varieties of local Greek honey. From the aromatic wild thyme to the deep, earthy forest pine learn the unique benefits of each variety!
PART 7: The Grand Finale: A Meze Feast for the Soul
We’ll wrap up our adventure at a mushroom-shop restaurant tucked away in the narrow streets of the historic center OR at a charming, traditional ouzeri in the surrounding area of the historic center, depending on the availability of our trusted partners.
OPTION A:
• A Mushroom Lover’s Paradise: We will visit a unique specialized mushroom shop-restaurant in the old town which offers a creative mushroom based menu that you can enjoy with a fine glass of an exceptional Greek wine!
OPTION B:
A Traditional Meze Experience: Alternatively, we’ll head to a cozy ouzeri or a family-run restaurant tucked away in the narrow streets of the historic center where we will enjoy authentic Meze style small plates to share!

Availability: The food tour experience is available in the mornings from Monday to Saturday, excluding Sundays, Holy Friday – Easter Tuesday and Greek official holidays.
On Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays afternoon, most of the local shops are closed among them, the Coffee Micro Roastery. Therefore, we visit another Coffee shop and we enjoy our Greek coffee/tea while walking in the historical center.
The Bakery is open only in the mornings, so we’ve handpicked another wonderful local bakery for our afternoon tours.
Please let us know if you’d prefer a professional Extra Virgin Olive Oil tasting or a specialized Local Honey tasting to anchor your experience.
Kindly choose between a unique lunch at our specialized Mushroom Restaurant or a traditional meal at a cozy Family Ouzeri-Restaurant.
On Wednesdays and Saturdays morning, the Food tour is enriched with a wonderful visit at the Open Air Farmers Market in Kalamata.
