Gili Trawangan: Horse Care Experience with Beach Walk & Swim

Join a hands-on experience with rescued horses on Gili Trawangan. Walk a horse to the beach, swim with it, and return in the afternoon to learn about grooming and horse welfare.
Spend a meaningful day getting to know the horses that are part of everyday life on Gili Trawangan. With no motorized vehicles on the island, horses have traditionally played an important role in transportation and daily life. This experience gives you a closer understanding of working horses on the Gili Islands, the challenges they face, and the welfare work carried out by the local team.

Rather than simply seeing the horses from a distance, spend time with them, hear their individual stories, help care for them, and experience the relationship between horses and island life firsthand.

Your ticket includes two hands-on sessions.

Morning Session — 7:30 AM

Meet the team at the stable and be introduced to the horses. Each guest will accompany one horse on a walk from the stable to the beach. As you walk, your guide will tell you about the horse you are accompanying, including its background and rescue story.

At the beach, spend time bonding with your horse and enter the water together for a swim. This is not a riding activity. You will stay beside your horse throughout the walk and beach session. Afterwards, everyone walks the horses back to the stable together. Stay for the complete session so every horse can safely return home.

Afternoon Session — 4:25 PM

Return to the stable to experience another side of horse welfare. Learn how the team looks after the horses day to day, including basic grooming, horse handling, stable routines, and how to notice signs of a horse's condition and wellbeing.

Have the opportunity to help groom the horses yourself while learning more about the stable and the welfare work happening behind the scenes. More than an animal encounter, this is a chance to understand the role of working horses on the island and connect with them in a more respectful and meaningful way while supporting ongoing horse welfare work on Gili Trawangan.
