Hiroshima: Calligraphy experience with a teacher

Enjoy a fun, hands-on calligraphy lesson! Learn basic kanji and hiragana using brush and ink, and boost your focus and creativity while experiencing traditional Japanese culture.
Experience the timeless art of Japanese calligraphy (shodō) in a calming and inspiring workshop located in the heart of Hiroshima.

The session begins with a 10-minute introduction to the history of Japanese calligraphy and its cultural significance. You will then spend about 25 minutes practicing basic brush techniques, using authentic tools such as a brush (fude) and ink (sumi) to write simple kanji and hiragana. With guided practice sheets and step-by-step instruction, you’ll learn posture, brush control, and the balance of characters.

In the final 25 minutes, create your own finished calligraphy work on quality paper to take home as a unique and personal souvenir.

No prior experience is required—this activity is beginner-friendly and enjoyable for both adults and children.
