This 4-day guided journey from Marrakech gives you two full nights in the Merzouga desert, one at a lodge at the edge of the dunes, one at a traditional Berber camp under the stars, plus an entire free day to explore the Erg Chebbi dunes at your own pace.

Your adventure begins with a drive over the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the highest paved road in North Africa. Descend to Ait Ben Haddou, the ancient mud-brick fortress where Gladiator and Game of Thrones were filmed. Continue along the Road of 1001 Kasbahs through the Valley of the Roses to your kasbah hotel in Kalaat M’Gouna for dinner and your first night.

On Day 2, hike into the Todgha Gorges, towering 300-meter limestone canyons carved by centuries of flowing water. Then drive east through Berber villages and desert fortifications to Merzouga, where you’ll check into a desert lodge with pool at the base of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 3 is yours. Swim in the pool, try sandboarding on the dunes, or book optional activities: quad biking, a 4x4 desert excursion to visit nomad families, or a horseback ride across the sands. In the late afternoon, mount a camel for a sunset ride deep into the dunes. Your desert camp awaits: a private tent (standard or Luxury), a traditional Moroccan dinner, and an evening of Berber drumming around the fire under a sky full of stars.

Wake before dawn on Day 4 for a sunrise camel ride, golden light spreading across the sand in near-total silence. After breakfast, begin the return journey across the Atlas Mountains to Marrakech, arriving by evening. Or choose to end your tour in Fes instead, traveling north through Midelt, the cedar forests, and Ifrane at no extra charge.
