Travel through time while exploring Tiraspol and Bender with a local guide and a specially prepared collection of archival photographs. Instead of simply hearing about the past, you will stand in the places where the original images were taken and compare historic streets, buildings and monuments with the cities you see today.
Begin in Bender, one of the region’s oldest and most diverse cities. Follow the route through its central streets, at selected locations, examine archival photographs, identify surviving details and recreate the original photographer’s viewpoint. See historic public buildings, Soviet architecture, monuments and places connected with the everyday life of previous generations.
Continue to Tiraspol and repeat the experience in the capital of Transnistria. Explore its main squares, government quarter, monuments, memorials and riverside areas. Compare monumental Soviet images with modern city life and notice what has survived, what has disappeared and what has been completely transformed.
By the end of the tour, you will have seen two cities from two different perspectives: as they appear today and as earlier generations once knew them.
