Explore The Hague on a guided walking tour. Visit the Binnenhof, see Paleis Noordeinde, and hear about the Gevangenpoort and the darkest hour in Dutch history.
Begin your walking tour of The Hague at the Grote Markt, in the shadow of the Grote Kerk and its hexagonal tower. Beside it stands the Oude Stadhuis of 1565, where the city was governed for four hundred years.
From there, walk to Paleis Noordeinde, the king's working palace, and down the Lange Voorhout, a lime-lined avenue of embassies and townhouses that has been the most fashionable address in the city since the eighteenth century.
Reach the water at the Hofvijver, with the Mauritshuis on its bank — home to Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring — and Het Torentje, the small tower from which the Prime Minister governs. Then, head into the Binnenhof itself: a thirteenth-century courtyard around the Ridderzaal, and one of the oldest parliament complexes still in use anywhere in the world.
At the Gevangenpoort, a medieval gate that became a prison, hear about what happened to the De Witt brothers in 1672. It is the darkest story in Dutch history and it happened on this spot.
Close through De Passage, the oldest covered shopping arcade in the Netherlands, and return to the Grote Markt where you began.

Our meeting point is at the Grote Markt, right next to the tram station exit near the cafes. You will easily recognize me there by my bright orange vest.
