Begin your day with a pickup from your Entebbe hotel around 7:00 AM, timed to reach the swamp as the first soft light settles over Lake Victoria. Transfer by boat from Nakiwongo in Entebbe to Mabamba (40-45 minutes).

From the community landing site in Mabamba, transfer into a traditional wooden canoe, paddled quietly into the wetland. The movement is slow and deliberate—perfect for photography. Papyrus walls, floating lilies, and mirror-still water create clean backgrounds and gentle reflections.

Shoebill encounters vary: sometimes they appear within minutes, other times after patient tracking. When found, there is usually time to observe behavior, adjust angles, and wait for decisive moments—whether a hunting stance, wing stretch, or direct gaze.
