Your own private chauffeur collects you from your Muscat hotel and drives you up the winding mountain road in a premium air-conditioned 4WD to the Saiq Plateau, 2,000 metres above sea level, where terraced gardens of roses, pomegranates and apricots cling to the mountainside in defiance of the desert below. Your English-, Arabic- or Hindi-speaking driver-guide shapes the day around you, at your own unhurried pace.
Walk the cliff-edge paths of Diana's Point for sweeping canyon views, explore ancient villages of stone and mud-brick, and descend to Birkat Al Mouz — a hauntingly beautiful ruined settlement at the mountain's base. In rose season (March–April), the air itself is perfumed with the famous Jabal Akhdar roses.

The mountain road has a police checkpoint that only allows 4x4 vehicles, so this tour runs in a 4x4 SUV (up to 4 guests per vehicle; groups of 5 to 8 travel in two vehicles).
Temperatures on the mountain are much lower than in Muscat, so bring a warm layer.
Wear comfortable shoes for the terrace walk.
In spring the terraces are known for roses and rose water; in late summer for pomegranates.
Tours are led by an English-speaking driver-guide.
