Step into a private hummingbird sanctuary hidden in the Andean forest, just 20 minutes from Cusco. Pachacútec Bosque Andino is an active ecological reserve in San Jerónimo where more than 30 bird species have been recorded, including six hummingbirds you can watch inches from native nectar flowers.
Dedicated observation areas bring you eye-level with the Giant Hummingbird — the world's largest — alongside the Sparkling Violetear, Black-tailed Trainbearer, Green-tailed Trainbearer, Tyrian Metaltail and White-bellied Woodstar. Keep your binoculars ready for the Blue-and-yellow Tanager, Golden-billed Saltator, Black-throated Flowerpiercer, Chiguanco Thrush, Andean Flicker and the elusive Peruvian Pygmy-Owl.
