Start your day with an early morning pickup from your hotel near the historic center of Arequipa or meet your guide at the main meeting point in Plaza de Armas. Travel toward the highlands of Chiguata, enjoying changing landscapes and views along the way.
Your first stop is the Volcanoes Viewpoint, approximately 45 minutes from Arequipa. Take time to admire the surrounding volcanic landscape and capture photos before continuing to the town of Chiguata. Visit its main square and see the traditional Church of the Holy Spirit, then enjoy a local breakfast.
Continue through the highland scenery, where you can see native plants such as queñua, yareta, and tola. Your next destination is Salinas Lagoon, where you will spend approximately 1 to 1.5 hours exploring different viewpoints and observing the local wildlife. Depending on the season, you may see flamingos, Andean flamingos, vicuñas, llamas, and alpacas. From January to March, seasonal water mirrors may form across the landscape, while from April to mid-December, the dry season reveals the salt flats.
After exploring Salinas Lagoon, continue to the Lojen area to visit its small volcanic landscape and warm thermal waters, which reach approximately 30°C. Take some time to enjoy the surroundings before returning toward Chiguata.
In Chiguata, stop for lunch at a local restaurant and have the opportunity to try traditional Arequipeñan dishes, such as rocoto relleno, cuy chactado, and other regional specialties. After lunch, begin the return journey to Arequipa, arriving in the historic center at approximately 4:30 PM.

Weather conditions can change quickly in the highlands, so bring warm clothing, sun protection, and comfortable walking shoes. The appearance of the salt flats and water mirrors at Salinas Lagoon depends on the season and weather conditions.
Bring drinking water and snacks, as well as cash for entrance fees, lunch, and any additional activities. Swimwear is optional if you wish to use the thermal waters at Lojen.
