Meet your guide at Fort Santiago and begin your journey through Manila’s walled city, moving from sunset into night. The 28-day 1945 Siege of Manila claimed more than 100,000 innocent civilian lives, turning the once “Pearl of the Orient” into rubble.
Begin inside Fort Santiago to examine battle scars on stone walls and learn about civilians and prisoners held in the dungeons. Walk to Plaza Roma and view the lit facade of Manila Cathedral, learning how thousands of refugees sought shelter here during the siege.
Continue to the Memorare Manila 1945 Memorial for a one-minute silent tribute to civilian victims. Wander the shadowy cobblestone Intramuros night alleys, site of fierce house-to-house combat, and hear how civilians hid and fled in darkness.
