The trail is located within the Ponta de São Lourenço Natural Monument, which offers a unique chance to explore the geological origin and evolution of Madeira, a volcanic island on the African Plate. The experience is further enhanced by the constant presence of the Atlantic Ocean and the peninsula's semi-arid environment, which hosts a distinctive landscape and ecosystem found nowhere else on the island.
