Begin your journey with a visit to the iconic Masters of the Air Tour locations, the cornerstone of your Masters tour experience. Immerse yourself in the events leading up to the USAAF's arrival in 1943 to 1945.
During 1943–1945, the United States Army Air Forces operated extensively from eastern England, especially around Cambridge. The nearby Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial honours many of the airmen killed during these operations.
From 1941 to 1945, the USAAF expanded into a global striking arm with sixteen numbered air forces operating across every theatre. In Europe, the Eighth and Fifteenth Air Forces carried out daylight strategic bombing of Germany, while the Ninth and Twelfth supported Allied ground advances. In the Pacific, the Fifth, Seventh, Thirteenth, and Twentieth Air Forces executed long-range campaigns culminating in the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The Masters of the Air Tour serves as your gateway to understanding the crucial decisions made in the USAAF Fighter Command’s nerve centre, a pivotal chapter in your WWII tour.
Travel to Thorpe Abbots, the home of the ‘Bloody Hundredth’, a crucial stop on your journey. This Bomb Group earned a reputation for high casualty rates as they flew missions, adding depth to your narrative.
At Parham, continue to unravel the tales of the 390th Bombardment Group, a key element of your journey. Their heroic efforts, from attacking industrial targets to supporting ground forces, enrich your understanding of the wartime experience.
. They were the first to bomb Berlin in daylight and received recognition for their contributions.\
