Upon arrival at the Kinigi Visitor Center, join other trekkers for a culturally rich morning briefing. Traditional Rwandan dancers often perform at the center, filling the air with rhythmic drumbeats that set an uplifting tone for the day. Your guide will help with registration and ensure you are grouped appropriately based on fitness level and gorilla family allocation. Rwanda’s gorillas are carefully monitored, and trekking groups are limited to a maximum of eight people to protect the animals and preserve a peaceful atmosphere in the forest.

After the briefing, drive to the trek starting point. The forested slopes of the Virunga Volcanoes soon surround you, offering cool air, rich biodiversity, and a sense of anticipation. Your trek could last anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours, depending on the location of your assigned gorilla family that day. The journey through the forest is part of the adventure itself—lush bamboo zones, moss-covered trees, volcanic rock paths, and occasional sightings of forest birds or golden monkeys enrich the experience. Trained trackers communicate with your guide throughout the morning, helping you navigate efficiently and safely.
