Our adventure begins with a climb to 2,030 meters above sea level to reach Cerro Verde, a dormant volcano that nature has reclaimed, transforming it into a lush cloud forest. Viewpoints of Giants: Izalco and Santa Ana
From the top of Cerro Verde, you will have front-row seats to admire two colossi of nature. The Lighthouse of the Pacific: During your hike, you will see the Izalco Volcano. This volcano was formed in 1770 and erupted almost continuously for nearly 200 years. Its lava glowed so brightly at night that boats on the ocean used it to orient themselves.
Water within fire: Lake Coatepeque is no ordinary lake; it was formed thousands of years ago after a series of mega eruptions that sank a group of volcanoes, creating the crater that now holds these crystal-clear waters.
Turquoise phenomenon: At certain times of the year, due to volcanic minerals and microalgae, the waters of Lake Coatepeque transform from their usual deep blue color to a brilliant turquoise. A breathtaking natural spectacle!
