Overview :
Discover South Africa's rich cultural tapestry and profound history on a tour of Soweto and the Apartheid Museum. This excursion features a walk through an informal settlement, visits to historical landmarks, and lunch at a vibrant local restaurant. It provides a chance to connect with Soweto's diverse residents from all backgrounds.
Soweto, a 'city within a city' with over 2 million inhabitants, served as the central point of the freedom and equality movement during South Africa's most challenging times. Today, it stands as a dynamic urban center and the cultural heartbeat of Johannesburg. The Apartheid Museum remains a unique institution that portrays South Africa's difficult years under apartheid.

Itinerary :
The Soweto tour begins with a meeting at the FNB Soccer Stadium, where your guide will provide an introduction to this famous arena and its historical significance to the community.
The journey continues into the heart of Soweto, passing Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, a major taxi rank, and the historic suburb of Diepkloof. The first official stop is at the Motsoaledi informal settlement for a guided walk through its streets, past local cafés and craft markets, to a community centre supported by SafariLink. This is an opportunity to interact with residents and learn about their daily lives.
The tour proceeds through Orlando West to key locations, including external views of Regina Mundi Church and Freedom Square, followed by a formal guided visit to the Hector Pieterson Museum.
Next, we travel along the bustling Vilakazi Street, passing notable monuments and the former homes of Nelson and Winnie Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Schedule permitting, you may choose to enter the Nelson Mandela House at your own expense.
The morning concludes at a well-known restaurant near the base of the iconic Soweto Towers, where you can enjoy a traditional 'shisa nyama' meal and explore a craft market. An optional bungee jump from the towers is available, subject to time and at an additional cost.
Following lunch, we return to Johannesburg's city centre for the final stop at the Apartheid Museum. Upon arrival, your guide will give a brief overview of the exhibits, after which you are free to explore the museum independently until the scheduled departure time.
