Descripción
We will visit Valencia's most iconic sites to understand how history, architecture, and everyday life are intertwined in this characterful Mediterranean city.
We will start in front of the Serranos Towers, the monumental gate of the old city walls, which still seem to be awaiting the return of medieval travelers. From there, the Palau de la Generalitat will reveal to us the institutional importance and historical significance of the former Kingdom of Valencia, before we turn onto Calle Caballeros, where stately palaces evoke times of splendor and legend.
The tour will take us to the Central Market, a jewel of European Modernism. Under its iron and glass dome, the scents of the sea, the farmland, and spices mingle in a burst of color and life. More than a market, it is a space where architectural beauty and everyday tradition blend in perfect harmony.
Opposite the market is the Lonja de la Seda (Silk Exchange), a masterpiece of secular Gothic architecture and a World Heritage Site, a symbol of the wealth and splendor of València's Golden Age. In the same square stands the Church of Santos Juanes, one of the city's most notable churches, whose Baroque façade and interior preserve centuries of history and art.
Wandering through narrow streets that retain the charm of a bygone era, we will arrive at the Church of Santa Catalina, famous for its Baroque tower. Right next to it is the horchatería named after the church, one of the neighborhood's most iconic establishments, reflecting the historic link between this place and the horchata tradition in Valencia.
The tour will also take us to the Cathedral of Valencia, a building that combines Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque styles and houses the Holy Grail, venerated as the authentic chalice used by Jesus at the Last Supper. Its presence makes the cathedral a place of great historical, artistic, and spiritual significance for the city.
Our tour will culminate in the majestic Plaza de la Virgen, the spiritual heart of the city, where the Cathedral and the Basilica stand side by side under the watchful eye of the Tribunal de las Aguas, Europe's oldest judicial institution, which keeps an age-old tradition alive every Thursday.
