Epic South Coast Highlights From Colombo

Visit all of Sri Lankas south coast highlights on a day trip from Colombo. Visit Hiriketiya, Mirissa, Weligama, Ahangama, Galle Fort, and Kosgoda.
Begin your day with an early morning departure from Colombo. You will be driven south with the first stop being the coastal town of Hiriketiya.

Arrive at Hiriketiya, one of Sri Lanka's most popular surfing destinations. You can explore the beach or visit a trendy beachside cafés, restaurants, and bars. while watching people surf.

If you are feeling adventurous pick up a surf board and take a lesson.

Afterwards leave Hiriketiya and continue west along the scenic coastal road towards Mirissa.

Visit the famous Coconut Tree Hill in Po. Enjoy a short walk to the viewpoint and take photos overlooking the ocean. Stop over in Weligama and Ahangama to visit a cafe or bar of your choosing.

Afterwards head to the historic Galle Fort, a UNESCO-listed city. Walk through the cobblestone streets and ramparts. See the historic colonial architecture, lighthouse and ocean views. Don't forget to try the gelato ice cream.

Leave Galle Fort and drive north along the coast towards Kosgoda. Stop at a turtle hatchery and conservation centre. Learn about Sri Lanka's sea turtles and conservation efforts. See the turtle pools and learn about the hatchery's work.

After a long day on the coast, continue your journey towards Colombo and arrive in the late evening.
