Discover the Troodos Mountains on a guided tour from the East Coast. Visit the Kykkos Monastery, explore the village of Kakopetria, and see the tomb of Archbishop Makarios III at Throni.
Begin your journey with a stop in Kakopetria, a well-preserved village with traditional, picturesque houses. Walk around the quaint village, known for its running water and mini waterfall, and mingle with the friendly locals.
Continue through the mountains to Throni, located at the top of the mountain among a beautiful pine forest. Admire the breathtaking views of the Troodos Mountains and visit the tomb of Archbishop Makarios III, the first President of Cyprus.
Next, drive to Kykkos Monastery, founded by the Byzantines in 1092. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, it is the richest monastery on the island and possesses one of the three surviving icons painted by Saint Luke.
Admire the miraculous icon, covered in silver gilt and enclosed in a tortoiseshell and mother-of-pearl shrine, which holds an eminent position in the church. Enjoy free time to explore the monastery and have lunch (optional extra).
