Begin your journey with a visit to Berat, an architectural marvel where history feels alive. Explore its three iconic neighborhoods, starting with Berat Castle. Unlike most castles, people still live within these 13th-century walls. Wander the citadel, walking through narrow stone alleys to see the mix of Byzantine churches and Ottoman ruins. Head to the southern tip of the castle for a panoramic view of the entire city and the Osum River below.
Next, visit the twin neighborhoods of Mangalem and Gorica. Located at the foot of the castle, Mangalem is where you’ll see the famous rows of white houses with stacked windows. Visit the King Mosque and the Halveti Tekke for stunning hand-painted ceilings. Cross the 18th-century stone Gorica Bridge to reach the Gorica Quarter.
