Description
Discover Tasmania's highlights on a 2-day tour from Hobart. Explore the Port Arthur Historic Site, see Tasmanian Devils, hike Bruny Island, and indulge in local food and drink.
DAY 1: Port Arthur & Tasmanian Devils
Combine two of Tasmania's iconic experiences: a Tasmanian Devil feeding and time to explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Port Arthur Historic Site.
After an early departure from Hobart, we drive to the stunning Tasman Peninsula, stopping at Pirates Bay Lookout for panoramic views before reaching Eaglehawk Neck.
We tackle the Waterfall Bay Clifftop walk – a short but spectacular track along dramatic coastal cliffs above the crashing Tasman Sea.
Next: the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo. Watch the snarling, bone-crushing spectacle of devil feeding time, hand-feed wallabies, and explore this unique wildlife sanctuary.
At Port Arthur Historic Site, enjoy around 2.5 hours exploring Australia's convict past. Your entry includes a Harbour Cruise to the Isle of the Dead and guided site talks. Walk among the main penitentiary, solitary confinement cells, and historic ruins of this once "inescapable prison."
We return via Richmond Historic Village with its convict-built bridge (1823), Georgian architecture, and cafes. Return to Hobart around 6:00pm.
Overnight: Hobart. Accommodation by your own arrangement.
DAY 2: Bruny Island Adventure – Hike, Highlights & Tastes
Bruny is an island off an island off an island! Famous for spectacular coastal scenery and local produce, today combines an amazing morning hike with afternoon gourmet indulgence.
We depart early from Hobart, taking a scenic waterside drive and 20-minute ferry crossing. Unlike big bus tours heading straight to the lighthouse, we're here to hike and explore!
First: a section of the Cape Queen Elizabeth trail – an easy-moderate 2-hour (6.5km) coastal hike delivering spectacular views from Mars Bluff of Miles Beach and the Bruny Island Arch. This coastal heathland walk is what sets us apart.
Next: The Neck – climb 279 stairs to Trugannini Lookout for fantastic 360-degree views and spot penguin burrows in the sand dunes below.
After exploring Two Tree Point, relax for lunch at Adventure Bay, a sheltered stretch of white sand with giant eucalyptus along the shore. BYO lunch or dine at the seafood restaurant (own expense).
Time to discover why Bruny is a food lover's paradise! Stops include:
Bruny Island Chocolate Company – award-winning handmade fudges and chocolates
Bruny Island Honey – natural island honey and honey ice cream
Bruny Island Cheese Co. – artisan cheese and cellar door tastings
Get Shucked Oyster Farm – fresh oysters from Great Bay's pure waters
Return to Hobart around 5:00pm after a day of hiking, scenery, beaches, and delicious island tastes.
