The guided exploration starts at the Double Gate and continues through intricately designed alleys and stone-paved streets, reflecting centuries of urban planning, defensive architecture and cultural layering.
Visitors explore the Maiden Tower, a 12th-century cylindrical monument with possible origins in the 7th–6th centuries BCE, exemplifying pre-Islamic defensive architecture and astronomical symbolism.
The Palace of the Shirvanshahs, a 15th-century complex including a palace, mosque, bathhouse and mausoleum, demonstrates medieval Azerbaijani design principles, spatial hierarchy and ornamental stonework.
The Juma Mosque, built on a former Zoroastrian fire temple site, illustrates Islamic architectural adaptation with later modifications.
The Muhammad and Murtuza Mosques highlight early Islamic styles. Caravanserais such as Bukhara and Multani reflect Silk Road commerce, while Bazaar Square reveals medieval trade networks.
Visitors explore the Miniature Book Museum and Vahid’s Garden and observe the preserved city walls. Approximately 3 hours are spent in the Old City with a private guide.
The tour continues to the Heydar Aliyev Center, designed by Zaha Hadid, showcasing fluid parametric architecture and advanced engineering. Guests spend 60 minutes exploring its design and cultural relevance.
Next, Baku Boulevard and the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum present coastal urban planning and textile heritage through extensive artifact collections.
