Description
Embark on a 5-day trek from Paro to Thimphu along the Druk Path. Hike through forests and alpine terrain, camp by Jimilangtsho Lake, and enjoy panoramic views of the Himalayas.
Day 1: Paro to Jele Dzong
Meet your Bhutanese trekking guide and support team in Paro. After a short drive to the trailhead, begin trekking through pine and mixed forests. The trail gradually climbs toward a high ridge, opening to views over Paro Valley. Depending on weather and visibility, Himalayan peaks may appear in the distance. Continue to Jele Dzong, a historic hilltop fortress overlooking the valley. Settle into your first mountain campsite and enjoy a warm dinner beneath the Himalayan sky.
Day 2: Jele Dzong to Jangchulakha
After breakfast, explore the Jele Dzong area before continuing along the mountain ridge. The landscape changes from forest to open alpine terrain, with rhododendrons adding color during spring. Walk through high pastureland traditionally used by yak herders. On clear days, enjoy views toward Mount Jomolhari and surrounding Himalayan peaks. Reach Jangchulakha and relax at your mountain campsite surrounded by Bhutan's peaceful highlands.
Day 3: Jangchulakha to Jimilangtsho Lake
Begin early and follow the high ridge through alpine vegetation, with several ascents and descents along the way. With favorable weather, enjoy panoramic views toward Jomolhari and Jichu Drake. Continue toward Jimilangtsho, one of the beautiful high-altitude lakes on the Druk Path. Surrounded by mountains, the lake offers a spectacular setting for a Himalayan campsite. After reaching camp, relax beside the lake, take photographs and enjoy a warm evening meal.
Day 4: Jimilangtsho to Simkota to Phajoding
Continue through dwarf rhododendron and open mountain terrain, passing Janetso Lake before reaching the Simkota Lake area. The trail then climbs toward the highest section of the trek. The Labana/Phume La area reaches approximately 4,210 m, the highest point of the route. Prayer flags along the mountain trail add to the Himalayan atmosphere. In clear weather, distant high peaks may be visible. Descend toward Phajoding, an important spiritual area known for its monasteries and meditation sites.
Day 5: Phajoding to Thimphu
Wake up in the peaceful surroundings of Phajoding. After breakfast, visit the Phajoding Goemba area before beginning the descent toward Thimphu. The landscape gradually changes from high alpine terrain to blue-pine and juniper forests. As you lose altitude, the scenery becomes greener before reaching the roadhead above Thimphu. Meet your private vehicle and transfer into Thimphu, marking the end of your Druk Path Himalayan adventure.
